The essentials
Verdishia is a recipe website. It does not run advertising, tracking pixels or affiliate programmes, and it does not sell personal information. It does use Google Analytics to understand which recipes people read. Beyond that, the only personal information Verdishia receives is what you choose to send: a contact message, a newsletter sign-up, or a comment on a recipe.
- Information you submit is used only for the purpose it was submitted for.
- Basic technical data is recorded by the web server to keep the site running and secure.
- Google Analytics measures which pages are visited. It sets cookies in your browser.
- You can contact Verdishia with any privacy question or request.
Who operates Verdishia
Verdishia is an independently run recipe website published at verdishia.online. Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact page.
Information you send
Contact form. If you send a message, Verdishia receives the name, email address, subject and message text you enter. This is used to read and reply to your message.
Newsletter. If you sign up, Verdishia receives your email address and, if you provide it, a first name. This is used only to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Comments. Recipe comments are currently open. If you leave one, WordPress stores the name and email address you enter, your comment, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string. This helps with spam detection and lets Verdishia reply to you.
Information collected automatically
The web server records standard request logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser user-agent. These logs are used to operate the site, investigate errors and detect abuse. They are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared with advertisers.
Cookies and local storage
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to tell repeat visits apart from new ones. These are typically named _ga and _ga_<id> and usually last up to two years. They are set by Google, not by Verdishia.
You can block or clear them in your browser settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on, which stops the data being sent from any site.
Cookies are used in two limited cases: if you leave a comment, WordPress may save your name and email in your browser so you do not have to retype them; and if you log in as a site administrator, WordPress sets session cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings.
Services Verdishia does not use
Being specific is more useful than listing everything that might one day apply. As of the date above, Verdishia does not use:
- Advertising networks or remarketing
- Tracking pixels, including Meta and Pinterest tags
- Affiliate links or affiliate networks
- Embedded video, social feeds or third-party comment systems
- A content delivery network that would receive visitor data
If any of these is introduced, this policy will be updated before or at the time it goes live.
Analytics
Verdishia uses Google Analytics 4, connected through the Google Site Kit plugin, to see which recipes are read and how people arrive at the site. It is used to decide what to cook and write next, not to identify individual visitors.
What Google may receive when you visit: the pages you view, approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser type, the site or search that referred you, and how long you stay. Google processes this on Verdishia’s behalf. Verdishia does not use it for advertising, and no advertising or remarketing products are connected.
Also connected through Site Kit:
- Google Search Console, which reports the search terms Verdishia appears for. It reports on searches already made on Google and does not track you on this site.
- PageSpeed Insights, which measures loading speed. It does not collect visitor data.
- Sign in with Google, which is available for signing in to the site. It only applies if you choose to use it.
Google’s handling of this data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely using the opt-out browser add-on.
Service providers
The website runs on a virtual private server rented from a hosting provider, which necessarily processes the server logs described above in order to deliver the site. Email you send through the contact form is handled by the mail configuration of that server.
How long information is kept
Contact messages are kept only as long as they are useful for handling your enquiry. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies make sense, unless you ask for removal. Server logs rotate on the hosting provider’s normal schedule.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS with a valid certificate, so traffic between your browser and the server is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, and Verdishia cannot guarantee that information sent over the internet is completely protected.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights over personal information relating to you, for example the right to ask what is held, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.
To make a request, use the contact page and choose “Privacy request” as the message type. Verdishia will not ask for identity documents to handle an ordinary request.
Children
Verdishia is written for a general audience and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will be updated. Significant changes will be described rather than made quietly.
